PROJECT MISSION:
CREATING IN PLACE provides space to showcase the voice of Napa County’s youth (K-12th grade) through visual and written art forms in an art collective of art, short story and poetry submissions. Every submission made by a Napa County youth resident will find a home in our published hardcover book, which will transcend as a time capsule and memoir of our community. The idea behind the book is to give EVERY child an opportunity to be published, to be included in a collective effort for something positive, to be heard through their own expressions, and for their works to be an imprint of themselves, both individually and collectively, for this moment in time.
Project Timeline & Long-Term Goals:
CREATING IN PLACE is and will be a continued and cherished community initiative, produced every other year. Art Submissions centered around a relevant theme for the current times will be curated every cycle. Books will be shipped/delivered by the end of the school year, along with a celebratory Book Launch Party. The title of the book will change to be relevant in time, with the subtitle (A Napa Valley Youth Art Collective) remaining constant. The year following production and delivery, we will gather our youth, celebrate their voice, and bring community organizations together - through book signings, pop-up art installations, merchandise booths - all to raise additional funds for scholarships. A youth committee will be created so the kids can learn and be involved in all of the planning of these events.
Scholarships:
Local sponsors will help to ensure scholarship opportunities, and to ensure support for scholarship requests for local participating artists and writers. Every child published in CREATING IN PLACE will receive a book through these donations and sponsorships.
